Broken Things

There is a tendency to discard the broken things.

We set them on a shelf to be fixed at another time.

Then little by little time ticks by,

slowly, we forget about the broken things we set aside.

With the best of intentions,

we get lost in the search for replacement parts.

Clinging to the hope that somewhere there is an identical piece.

It will be like nothing ever happened

But there are no replacements for pieces of a heart.

Hearts don't get to sit on a shelf when broken

they have to keep going, keep beating

When it's a fractured heart you don't have the same options

Pain and struggle are easy to get lost in.

I have heard it said that hearts shouldn't be so fragile

the older I get the more I disagree

There is a great strength in vulnerability

Hardening your heart is easier than wearing it on your sleeve

Some lessons can only be learned through pain

Pain can destroy and create all the same

The dreamer of happily ever after isn't naive

There is risk in in a dream and still so much to gain

Breaking can be a beautiful art

beating through the pain and finding strength in healing

Transformation is more than revealing

No need to discard; you can still love with a broken heart.
